People gathered for lunch or coffee at one of the cafes that line a plaza in the ancient city of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico under the red umbrellas intrigues me. My aim was to capture the shadows and reflections in the glass of the classic wooden window frames and on the red umbrellas. I set out to simplify each figure with a few strokes to catch the light and their posture. Its a narrative piece with tourists and locals relaxing, reading the paper and their phones, catching up, planning their day, laughing along Calle San Francisco.
